October Life Skill:
Bravery
“Courage is doing what you’re afraid to do. There can be no courage unless you’re scared.” – Edward Vernon Rickenbacker
At
Peak Performance we build our kids up to be champions in life! One of
the ways we do this, is through our life skills program. Each month we
go over the Life Skill: defining the skill, giving them examples, asking
them to give their coaches examples, working on each Life Skill at home
and school, and we also incorporate the Life Skill into our classes.
This
months Life Skill is Bravery. We will be learning about the
importance of being brave and doing whats right even though you're afraid. Through Harry's adventures, he
will be teaching us how being brave is standing up to a bully, or giving a speech in front of a class.
Parent Tip of the Month: Set the Example. We often talk here about how the eyes
of our children are always on us. That most definitely applies here. Our
kids’ prime examples of bravery are most likely going to come from you.
Allow them to witness you stepping out of your comfort zones. If you
are terrified of roller-coasters, face your fear with them and ride that
monster at the park. Maybe you are afraid dancing makes you look like an
idiot. Dance with them.Courage is basically wisdom, and much can be gained just by talking. There are no stats to prove this, but it could be contended that 99% of all problems could be solved with a little common sense and real and honest communication. Talk to your child constantly and openly. Share with him things that happened to you at his age and how you dealt with them. Encourage him and create an environment where he feels safe to share the important things going on his private life. If your child can openly talk to you about his problems, then you are able to help him come up with real solutions.

What benefits do martial arts offer that teams sports don't?
Self Defense
By teaching your child how to defend themselves, ether standing up
and/or on the ground, we are teaching them the best forms of self
defense. Without a doubt Muay Thai Kickboxing is the best form of stand
up martial arts and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is the best form of ground
martial arts.
Most
martial arts schools only focus on the stand up self defense or the
ground self defense. At Peak Performance MMA we specialize in both! We
have the highest ranked BJJ AND Muay Thai Coach in the area. We are
always working to improve our curriculum to make sure your child is
learning the best skills.
Self Confidence
At Peak Performance MMA we believe in not only making champions in
martial arts, we believe in making champions in life! Our programs are
designed to increase your child's confidence, self esteem, and help to
make them a better person!
Discipline
Having your child involved in mixed martial arts will teach them
discipline, respect, and self control. These necessary tools will help
them throughout life, as well as avoid fights, and defend themselves
when conflict in unavoidable.
Individual Achievement
Instead of trying to "make the team" or sitting on the bench, everyone
is able to participate. They are able to rank up (belt/strips), compete,
and progress as an individual.
Gender Equality
Kids Martial Arts is one of the few sports where boys and girls can play/train together.
Weight Control
Kids Martial Arts classes are one of the best ways for your child to get in
shape and lead a healthy life. Unlike team sports, where a lot of kids
sit on the bench, in martial arts training every child is pushed to make
themselves better. This is very important in this day and age where
kids just want to play video games. The workouts are fun and a lot of
the time the kids don't even realize they are exercising while they are
learning self defense.
Never Ending Season
Unlike team sports, which have seasons, they are able to train all year round!
